The Secret in Their Eyes
The Secret in their Eyes is a 2009 crime thriller movie directed by Juan Jose Campanella which is based on Sacheri’s novel La pregunta de sus ojos that narrates the story of unresolved homicide case and unreciprocated love between a retired lawyer and his superior. A retired criminal court investigator Benjamin writes unsettled rape and murder case that trouble him to date while sharing his plan with Irene who is a beautiful judge whom he secretly been in love with.
Benjamin seems not convinced by the conviction of two workmen and tells Irene that she wants to write about the case. Although Benjamin had a low rank, he his assured that the case was not handled appropriately because of the bad politics that was practiced by the right wing politicians particularly when Argentina was on the brink of its dirty war and dictatorship. The film continues with vast narrative expertise connecting the past, present and is full of secrets revealed and concealed (Campanella Film).
Irene uses her beauty to and superiority to lure the victim into making confession while the rightwing policeman who has been a big obstacle on Benjamin’s side trying to mock Benjamin as a way of provoking him into an act of violence (Campanella Film). The act of the right wing policeman towards Benjamin and the political influence in some prominent cases is very common in countries where political dominance and influence is preferred to justice. Most people in the leadership positions are fond of influencing cases that they have interest in particularly in Africa and other countries whose level of democracy is still very poor.
