In APA referencing style, the referencing of a book has the following structure:

Last name of the author, initials of the other names. (Year). Title of the book. City of publication: Publishers. In this case, the title of the book needs to be italicized.

On the other hand, the referencing of a journal article is different from that of a book or website, and has the following structure:

Last name of the author, initials of the other names. (Year, month and date). Title of the article. Title of periodical, volume number (issue number), pages. In this case, the title of the periodical is italicized.

The structure of referencing a website is also different from that of referencing a book or a journal article. The structure of referencing a website is as follows:

Last name of the author, initials of the other names. (Year, month and date published). Title of the article. Website title. Retrieved month, date, year, from URL. In this case, the website title is italicized.

Despite the differences in the structure for referencing the three resources in APA; that is, books, journal articles and websites, the APA style have some basic format that must be followed, when referencing all the resources. The last name of the author must come first, then followed by the initials of other names of the author. In case there are many authors, the format still holds; the names of the authors will follow each other, but must start with the surname then initials of their first and other names. Another basic rule is that the date of publication of a resource must follow after the names of author (s), then the title of the resource should follow and must be italicized.

When referencing a book, website and a journal article in APA, there are some differences that emerge. One of the differences is that, when referencing a book, there is the inclusion of the city of publication and the publishers, which is a requirement.
